Scripture's best-known worship leader, King David, wrote: "Give honor to the Lord, you angels; give honor to the Lord for his glory and strength. Give honor to the Lord for the glory of his name. Worship the Lord in the splendor of his holiness." (Psalm 29:1-2). Why should we worship, honor, praise, or give thanks to God? As Max Lucado writes, "How else do you respond to a Being of blazing, blistering, unadulterated, unending holiness"?
Join us this Sunday at 9:30am, as we continue our mini-series titled, Portraits of Thanksgiving. This week will will look at the life of David as a picture of what it looks like to live a life built on the foundation of giving thanks to God. In the meantime, let me encourage you to read and meditate on David's prayer of thanksgiving for God's faithfulness in building the temple (see below). Praise be to you, O Lord, God of our father Israel, from everlasting to everlasting. Yours, O Lord, is the greatness and the power and the glory and the majesty and the splendor, for everything in heaven and earth is yours. Yours, O Lord is the kingdom; you are exalted as head over all. Wealth and honor come from you; you are the ruler of all things. In your hands are strength and power to exalt and give strength to all. Now our God, we give thanks, and praise to your glorious name.
